Horticulture Team Lead

Reports to: Founder & Creative Director

The Horticulture Team Lead spends their day in gardens surrounded by the beautiful aesthetic of plants and sounds of pollinators where they are responsible for ensuring that all plant installations, garden maintenance, and pond maintenance are performed in accordance with proper horticultural practices and ecological integrity.

Job Duties:

  • Manage the execution of a variety of plant installation projects which includes planning labour and equipment requirements, material deliveries and timing to ensure completion of project(s) within deadlines

  • Assist in the preparation of jobsites prior to the beginning of a project

  • Supervise, coordinate and delegate the day-to-day work activities of a garden maintenance crew of 2 to 3

    employees

  • Participate in recruitment activities for our Dream Team, by assisting in interviews with potential job

    candidates

  • Conduct on-site orientations with new employees and employees in new positions (covers all company

    health and safety policies, practices, and procedures) along with continued employee training

  • Operate various tools and equipment, including: some heavy equipment, leaf blowers, edgers, laser levels,

    measurement equipment, pruning equipment, hand saws, shovels, rakes, pickaxes, hammers,

    wheelbarrows etc.

  • Assist in the construction of water features, walkways, patios, walls, steps, etc. when required

  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting daily inspections, lubricating,

    and cleaning

  • Read and interpret blueprints, planting plans, and specifications to delegate/complete work activities

  • Meet with subcontractors and supervise quality, efficiency, and deadlines

  • Complete and submit all required paperwork daily, including crew daily forms, attendance tracking, time

    and materials billing summaries, etc.

  • Ensure employees comply with all company policies and regulations, including appropriate PPE along with

    local health and safety laws/regulations on project sites and the shop/yard

  • Maintain and enforce standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment,

    jobsites, and shop/yard areas

  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner

  • Continued training opportunities to grow a career

    Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Horticulture training is an asset

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the landscape horticulture industry

  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner

  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)

  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines

  • Time management skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape

    maintenance practices

  • Speak, read, and write English

  • Carry and use a smart phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, heavy equipment, and materials

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent stamina is required

  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis

  • Work outdoors in various conditions including extreme heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold

  • Seasonal (April to December), full-time (Monday to Friday, 40-50 working hours including occasional

    weekend work).

 

Pay: $22-$26/hour based on experience.
